As every aspect of human life relies on information and communication technologies (ICT) nowadays, we must recognize the need for rethinking educational strategies too. The digital generation needs relevant and comtemporary tools to gain new knowledge and experience, to master skills. Active learning techniques, web-based projects, web-quests, interactive tests and tasks used in the academic process make students motivated and engaged, raising the levels of their performance multifold and improving their ICT competences.
This course is aimed at teaching English for specific purposes to the students of ICT who, in order to be competitive in the labour-market, need to have a good command of both English and Technologies.
The goal of the course is to boost communicative competencies development in students of ICT through teaching them professional English with the help of technology which has proved efficient in motivating learners, making them more engaged in language acquisition. Being an active member of the academic process, a researcher rather than a recipient of information, raises students' performance and helps learners to improve their analytical and critical thinking skills which are an essential asset in work settings in the digital age. Language fluency, effective communication skills, ICT competences blended with capabilities of learning throughout life - make a professional competitive and successful in the demanding labour-market nowadays.
The course is part of Bachelor's degree programs for the students of 'Information science and computer engineering' and 'Software engineering'.The curriculum is developed in compliance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standards for Higher Education in the Russian Federation.
